Investigation into complaint about resident’s fall in care home

A care home resident was left alone while using the bathroom despite her care plan stating she needed the assistance of at least one member of staff.

Report recommendations

We asked the care home to apologise to the complainant for the failures in her grandmother's care.

We also asked it to provide refresher training to all staff about the importance of adhering to personal care plans for residents and about how they should respond to a fall.
