The Ombudsman has partially upheld a complaint about the care and treatment of man while he was an in-patient in the Lagan Valley Hospital in 2017.

A woman complained about the treatment her late mother received in hospital.  We found a number of failures by the South Eastern Health Trust, including that the patient did not receive the right medication following a stroke.

A woman complained about the treatment given to her mother in the Emergency Department of the Ulster Hospital.  We found her treatment on the whole was appropriate, but made a number of training recommendations for nursing staff.

We partially upheld a complaint from two sisters who believed that the Trust ignored their concerns when it came to the care of their mother in a nursing home.

The Ombudsman has recommended staff training in a Trust to help improve communication with patients who become distressed during post-birth procedures.

The Trust accepted its failings and our recommendations into record keeping after the patient’s mother raised concerns about both staff communication and the administration of medication.

Our investigation found that the South Eastern Trust failed to properly assess the risks faced by a patient, and could have done more to help him before his death.

Our report found that an endometriosis patient did not receive hormonal treatment to help her condition during her four year wait for surgery.  We also found that the health trust only invited her for hospital appointments when prompted to do so by the patient and her GP.
