Resident frustrated by Council’s probe into ‘odour nuisance’

Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council failed to properly respond to a man’s concerns when he complained about odours coming from his neighbour’s house.

Report recommendations

We asked the council to apologise to the man.

We also asked it to provide staff training to those involved in the investigation of statutory nuisance, and recommended it ensures that staff record full contemporaneous rationales for their decisions.

We also asked the council to consider introducing a policy governing the circumstances in which it supplies complainants with the telephone number of its out of hours reporting service.
