Care and treatment of a patient in Antrim Area Hospital

A woman complained that failures in her husband’s care while he was in hospital contributed to a deterioration in his health. We partially upheld the complaint.

Report recommendations

We asked the Trust provide training to staff on the importance of carrying out multidisciplinary reviews of feeding for patients who develop dysphagia, and to physiotherapy staff on the importance of conducting appropriate assessments in line with HCPC guidance.

We also asked it to apologise to the complainant for the failings identified in our report.
